“"One of Melbourne’s most historic and beautiful gardens."”
Located in the heart of Melbourne, Fitzroy Gardens add to the city’s claim to being the Garden City of Australia. Within 26 hectares (64 acres) of the gardens, you will find Victorian-era landscaped lawns and avenues lined with English elms, unusual fountains, and flowers.
Visit Captain Cook’s Cottage, the former Yorkshire home of the English captain who discovered Australia. The cottage was shipped and reconstructed stone by stone in 1934. The Cooks’ Cottage is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. Nearby is quirky carved Fairies’ Tree, a 300-year-old stump embellished with pixies and kangaroos. As you stroll through the gardens, stop at a replica Tudor village. Walk the People’s Path, a loop walkway paved with 10,000 engraved bricks. Keep your eyes open for possums and ducks.
One of Melbourne's favourite tourist attractions is the Conservatory. The Conservatory opened on the 13th of March 1930, over 80 years of providing spectacular floral displays. The Building copies the Spanish mission architectural styles and exhibits five floral displays each year. The Conservatory is a vital part of the City's commitment to excellence in horticulture. It is visited by tourists, schools, families and anyone who wants to capture a moment of floral beauty. The conservatory is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, except when closed for the changeover of displays.
