“Great swimming spot and large picnic area.”
The Pound Bend tunnel was constructed in the late 19th century to alter the course of the Yarra in the hopes of generating electricity and mining sections of riverbank for gold. Today, visitors to Warrandyte State Park, 28kms north-east of Melbourne, can soak in the rock pool at the tunnel outlet and be vigorously massaged by rushing water, while those wanting a less…intense swimming experience can chill out in one of the calmer, shallower pools nearby. The Pound Bend area also features a large, lawned picnic area complete with tables and toilets, as well as canoe ramps and meandering nature trails.
