Loop Walk, Kalbarri National Park

Over 183,000 hectares of outback adventure, gorgeous gorges and winsome wildflowers make Kalbarri National Park one of Western Australia's most popular spots to visit. You can hike or canoe on a journey back 400 million years, when the tidal flats of an ancient sea formed the striking red sandstone and the mighty Murchison River carved out deep gorges on its way to the Indian ocean. The Loop trail provides many good Instagram moments including ‘Nature’s Window’ a natural rock formation which, not surprisingly, frames the gorge through it. The eight-kilometre Loop Walk Trail starts at the car park for Nature's Window. Marked by directional markers the trail follows the edge of the cliff then works its way down to the river bank. Along the river are sandy beaches, river gums and the chance of swimming, with a view of red and pink cliffs on the other side. Before the river bends towards the ocean, the trail climbs out of the gorge and back up to Nature's Window car park. Sometimes the trail follows rock platforms and this can be a scramble. Check in with weather forecasts as the river and gorges can flood after heavy rain. To see the park ablaze with the colours of spring, visit between July and October. The road into Natures Window and the other popular spot, Zbend, have recently been sealed allowing access to all types of vehicles.
