“A provincial park in British Columbia”

Juniper Beach was established as a Provincial Park in 1989. The park protects a representative desert landscape which contains sagebrush, prickly pear cactus and of course, juniper. Part of the landscape includes deep post-glacial deposits and large scale erosion features. It is a convenient overnight camping spot for travelers on Hwy #1 and provides access to the Thompson River. Both CNR and CPR railway tracks run by the park and provide an attraction to train-buffs. This park is also a popular base camp for visitors enjoying boating, fishing, photography and touring historic Hat Creek Ranch and Ashcroft Manor, both nearby.

Beautiful small campground. Campsites are gravel and wide rather than deep so if you’re towing anything longer than 17-18 feet you will probably need to unhook for the night. There is a 2 stall shower that takes loonies (old but clean) and a couple of pit toilets. The campground is between two active train tracks but was surprisingly quite.

We had a great site, large, next to a grassy area. Gravel, level sites. Water and electrical hookups. Pit toilets in our area. An assortment of campers. Train noise but not enough to keep us from sleeping. Great place for train viewing. Water access but strong currents. Be careful.

This is not a good place to stay more than overnight. Trains and trains and more trains - all day and night. River current is very strong so the only swimming is in a small cove. Got a mouse in the house the second day. The other parks in the area are undeveloped. Camp host was not very nice. You have to pay $5 for the dump station.

At first we panicked after booking and reading more reviews about Juniper Park as our trip got closer…originally was to be here 3 nights but stayed 2 instead, missed out on our first night. It’s a perfect place to unwind, stay for a night or two …especially if you like Trains (as there truly are A LOT of them 24/7.) But for us electrical and water at site, dog and us can wade/swim closer to shore and the well kept grounds with picnic tables and shade make it lovely. No doubt there are cactus out there but we did not see them in our traveled areas. The say there are rattle snakes here too. Stay in the well groomed areas of the park and you’ll be fine.
The “beach” water line area probably changes with the seasons and the rain fall amount like most rivers do.
There is currently a sandy spot by the water towards the far eastern side of the campground… and what looks like a sandy driveway leading there. Others rocky, willows/shrubs and things along the waters edge.
We did find about the only place to get cell service is upper lawn/grass area. Absolutely nothing at our site # 9.
We would stay here again, but probably for just 1 night next time. Hope this all helps you decide if this park is for you.

Wonderful spot that we found in advertently during our travels. We had our four and two-year-old boys with us. They were in absolute heaven watching the CN & CPR trains on the railways! Not a ton to do in the area, but the campground itself was clean and the hosts were fantastic! Everyone was very friendly. There are 5 first come/first serve spots by the river with water & 30 amp hookups!
