“1 of the world's best gardens”
The Butchart Gardens is one of the world's premier floral show gardens. Jennie Butchart began to shape this magnificent landscape in 1904. She established, in the style of the grand estates of the period, several distinct gardens to evoke a range of aesthetic experiences. An abandoned limestone quarry was transformed into the dramatic Sunken Garden, a reflection of the early 20th-century beautification movement and an exceptional achievement in Canadian gardening history. Through successive generations of the Butchart family, The Gardens has retained much of its original design, and continues the Victorian tradition of seasonally changing the outstanding floral displays.
Reviews
Saturday nights.. All summer.. Come to see the fireworks! Especially if you have kids that get bored easy this will be something to keep them entertained!
Beautiful gardens and very well laid out! We went in May and found the weather was perfect for strolling through the gardens! Some had told us it can be hot, but we did not find that to be the case. It is about a 20-minute drive from downtown Victoria to the gardens. It will take 3-4 hours to see all the gardens and longer if you decide to eat there (they have a high tea area as well as a cafeteria area). There is also delicious ice cream available. The flowers are beautiful and the gardens meticulously cared for! A definite stop if you're in this area of BC.
Its a once in a lifetime kinda thing given the entrance price. It was an amazing place. Very beautiful with countless picture opportunities. Staff is very friendly.
