“boomtown to provincial park!”
Emory Creek is located 18km north of Hope on Hwy #1. In 1808, Simon Fraser became the first white explorer to visit this site in his search for a route to the Pacific Ocean. Emory Creek in 1858 was a tent and shack camp, established by miners in search of gold. When it became evident that the gold was not available in the amounts estimated, the miners started moving north on the Fraser River. A few Chinese remained in the area. The area came into the hands of a man named Walker, who felt Emory Creek would become the head of riverboat navigation on the Fraser. Eventually, he sold the land to the Oppenheimer Brothers in early 1879. In the fall of 1879, Emory was chosen by the C.P.R. as the western terminus. In a short time it became Emory Creek. The town consisted of thirteen streets with its own newspaper, various shops, a brewery, nine saloons and a sawmill. When Yale was made the terminus, Emory was all but abandoned by 1885, with the completion of the railway. Today, it is an easily accessible treed campground with paved roads and flush outhouses.

Beautiful spots, fairly level. Campground layout gave sense of privacy. A few riverside spots available. Price reasonable. Host very pleasant. We were able to park a 27ft and a 20ft trailer in two separate sites. Not all sites would have been possible for a trailer but at least 10 of them would have worked. Only challenging part is the trains run all night and blow their whistles right by the campground. It’s very loud because the road entrance, track and campground are all very close.

We arrived around 3PM on the Friday of Labor Day weekend and found 2 of the 30-ish spots available. We grabbed site number 2 which was clean and decently level. The friendly ranger took our money and we walked to the river. The park has 3 river access trails. Several of the sites have river views but we arrived much too late to get one.
The railroad is across the river so its sound is well muffled.
Mosquitoes were not a problem on this day. There were a few yellow jackets, however.
We’d definitely camp here again if we were in the area.

We stayed here one night on our way down to the lower 48. It was convenient, large sites, and not many people in late September. The only negative was the train traffic which was quite frequent. There were plenty of spots we could have fit in with our 32 ft fifth wheel.
