TALLA MÓR NAM FINEACHAN

The Great Hall of the Clans is the home of your cultural experiences on campus. With an interactive museum, you will discover the ancient history of the settlers to this area from the Highlands of Scotland, along with an exploration of the traditions still living today. The Rev. Norman MacLeod Exhibit takes you on a journey around the world, from Scotland to St. Ann’s and later onto Waipu, New Zealand. A fascinating tale, it interprets the life of the man, and the preacher, allowing each visitor to know the history and experience one of the most remarkable migrations in history. Eight interactive displays bring to life the traditions of the settlers from the Highlands of Scotland, as they've evolved into a Cape Breton way of life over these last 200+ years. The Gaelic film Faire Chaluim MhicLeoid tells the tale of a traditional storyteller, who is faced with the challenges of living a traditional life with a modern family. Full of local flavour and local actors, the short film gives watchers the chance to hear the Gaelic language in full force, with English subtitles to guide your way. As does a new film being added to our theatre room this year, another creation by filmmaker Marc Almon - The Fiddler's Reel. A farm girl and the wandering musician she loves must overcome her father's fierce opposition to their match. A tale of love and intrigue set in Depression-era Cape Breton, The Fiddler's Reel pays tribute to the island's Gaelic heritage and storytelling traditions. Be sure to check out our Cultural Demonstrations, an incredible added bonus to your admission charge into the Hall.
