“national park camping!”

Overview Seawall campsites are reservable up to 6 months in advance. Reservations for group campsites can be made starting on March 15th every year. There are no first-come, first-serve sites. All campsites are by reservation only. Seawall Campground is located in breathtaking Acadia National Park on the western side of Mount Desert Island on the Maine Coast. The campground is approximately 18 miles from Bar Harbor and the park loop road. Visitors venture to Acadia for its picturesque scenery, historic sites and recreational activities, including hiking, biking and canoeing. Recreation From gentle walks along the rugged coastline, mountain hikes, tree lined carriage roads for biking and lakes for kayaking and canoeing, Acadia offers many opportunities to get outside and be active. Park rangers at Acadia offer a variety of programs to suit every interest and activity level. Programs include walks, talks, hikes, narrated boat cruises, bike rides and more. Kids age 6-12 love Acadia's Junior Ranger Program. Visitors enjoy viewing the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, Cadillac Mountain, Isle au Haut and the Sieur de Monts Spring Area. A 27-mile, historic loop road system offers outstanding views of the park's ocean shoreline, coastal forests and mountain silhouettes.Facilities The majority of this family-oriented campground's sites are for small and large tents; some sites can accommodate RVs up to 35 ft. in length. Maneuvering RVs in the campground can be very difficult. Seawall Campground was not designed to accomodate large RVs and trailers. Please read campsite details and warnings carefully before reserving a site. Accommodations cannot be made for RVs or trailers that do not fit in reserved sites. Flush toilets, running water and a dump station are provided, as are picnic tables and fire rings. Roads are paved. A picnic area is located on the shore across from the campground entrance. Acadia's Island Explorer shuttle buses provide free service between park destinations, local communities and the Bar Harbor-Hancock County Regional Airport. Regularly scheduled buses stop at campgrounds, carriage road entrances and many trailheads. Shuttle service is available from late June to mid-October. ***Fee shower facilities and camping supply stores are located 1 mile from the campground. There are no showers in the campground.*** Natural Features Southwest Harbor is located on the west side of Mount Desert Island. The west side of the Island is considered the "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island. All the sites at Seawall Campground are wooded and within a 10-minute walk to the ocean. There are many beautiful and quiet hiking trails on this side of the Island, as well as Echo lake, a wonderful lake for swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and picnics. Acadia is comprised of a cluster of islands on the Atlantic coast of Maine. Mountains, lakes, streams, wetlands, forests, meadows and beaches are all found within roughly 45,000 acres comprising Acadia. Nearby Attractions Acadia National Park is surrounded by scenic island harbors and quaint towns. Bar Harbor is less than 30 minutes away, with restaurants, shops, museums, music festivals and whale-watching tours. Beautiful Lamoine State Park is just 21 miles from Acadia, with boating, fishing and scenic views of Frenchman's Bay. The Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge is 50 miles from the campground, and is home to a nesting habitat for diverse seabird and wading bird populations, as well as bald eagles.Charges & Cancellations Notice Regarding Group Campsites: If you cancel a group campsite within 7 days of the scheduled arrival date, you will be charged the $10.00 service fee and forfeit the first night's use fee. Cancellations for a single night's use will not be assessed a service fee. Please review Rules & Reservation Policies below for more information.

We stayed 2 nights at Seawall and is was perfect, large site private and wooded with shade #008 a tent site, with a picnic table and large stone fireplace with a heavy iron grate. Our only 2 complaints were a neighbor's large dog that barked way too much (come on Mr dog owner?) and the fact that there wern't any showers!!!! you could shower down the road at the store/Lobster Pound for $1.00/2 minutes seriously? The bathroom was however very clean and well lit. We enjoyed a lobster dinner at the casual Beal's Lobster Pound,it was a wonderful treat. This island is a wonderful and we really enjoyed camping on the "quiet side" of the island what a way to start out National Park Adventure with Acadia

Great campground on the quiet side, walk-in sites are close and can be annoying with loud neighbors, but facilities are clean, the Seawall is a short walk or bike ride away. Great to be away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor

I had originally wanted to camp in Schoodic because they had electric. But I'm so glad we camped here instead! This was a great campground, and we got to explore quite a bit of the National Park! My biggest disappointment was the fact that I couldn't see Thunder Hole, because it is not handicap accessible. We got to see a beautiful sunrise. This is the farthest east we have ever been and probably ever will be, so we set the alarm for 4:30 am to see it! I loved exploring Bass Harbor! Route 102A was closed for construction when we arrived, but we were one of the first people to drive on it when they reopened it!

Staff were friendly and relaxed. Typical older NPS campground set in beautiful wooded sites. However, C loop for RVs is best suited for 25' rigs. The trees hang low with some tight turns. Sites are gravel, relatively level and close to each other. There is not much privacy. Comfort Stations are well maintained and clean, no showers in the campground.

Very nice c/g for NP. Out at the end of Desert Island across the road from a stone seawall and the Atlantic Ocean. Typical NP with many regs, lots of Rangers and staff, good access to camping, tough getting into many sites due to trees being right where you want to bend your rig to fit in the site.

Old park, sites only about 45-50' long, heavily treed with lots of shade in most cases. No utilities, water and dump station nearby, generator rules are liberal.

One of three C/G in the park. The other is close to the "Disney World" side of the Park, i.e.: Bar Harbor, Sand Beach, Parkway Drive and hikers and bikers and kids all over the roads. Lots of traffic there at Blackwoods c/g.

The Seawall C/G is close to nice little towns like Southwest Harbor, Bass Harbor and less formality than the Bar Harbor atmosphere. More our kinda place! Very uncrowded in early June as weather and family activities keep the hoards from traveling then.

This Acadia National Park campground is located at the south end of Mount Desert Island. The campground is pretty with decent paved roads. However the sites are small and close together in a wooded setting, not uncommon for a national park. Some of the sites have no separation at all with the neighbor on one side. The bathroom door slammed when people came and went. We found the crowded atmosphere unpleasant and mostly hid inside our camper while there, running our air cleaner to clear the heavy campfire smoke.

We were able to snag a site without a reservation in Aug 2015 by calling ahead that day. Since it is a good drive out of the way, they will hold a site for you for 1 hour. You can call once you get to the town of Ellsworth. However, we couldn't get the same site for 3 nights and had to move after 2. Check out time is an absurdly early 10am, which was helpful on our move day, but inconvenient on our check out day.

The campground is a good location for a base of operations to explore Acadia National Park. Across the road from the campground is the Seawall day use area which is a pretty overlook on the atlantic ocean. Great spot for a picnic or to hang out and relax for the day. Lots to see and do in Acadia National Park. During peak season, it is a good idea to take advantage of the free shuttle as parking at the popular spots can be very difficult.

We enjoyed our stay here. We drove up without reservations and got 3 days in the campground. Sites for rv’s are close together but there is some vegetation between most sites. No power, sewer,or water hookups. Also no showers, just restrooms. C loop is a generator use loop. Lots to see and do on this part of the park but not as spectacular as the other side of the park.

We stayed here because we couldn’t get reservations for a full week at Blackwoods . We were happy it turned out that way because we really enjoyed our time at Seawall on “the Quiet Side”. We preferred the smaller towns here to Bar Harbor. Don’t miss the walk to the beachside picnic area. Loop C is the only loop for RVs and the first row of sites (2-12) are paired up twin sites. Although you are indeed right next to your neighbor, they are arranged so you park street side to street side. Our rate is the Senior pass rate.

Beautiful camp site but very loud.. it is Tuesday Sept 16 and thought children would be in school. People need to control their children and Adults needs to lower their voices.
