Our Take

You'll notice tons of awesome things, like the High Line, if you just remember to look up. The abandoned railroad viaduct turned urban oasis is just under a mile and a half long, offering varying views of the city and art installations, all while blending lush greenery into the concrete and metal along the way. It's a great way to burn off a food binge at the Chelsea Market.

“built on an historic freight rail line”

The High Line (also known as the High Line Park) is a 1.45-mile-long (2.33 km) New York City linear park built in Manhattan on an elevated section of a disused New York Central Railroad spur called the West Side Line. Inspired by the 3-mile (4.8-kilometer) Promenade plantée (tree-lined walkway), a similar project in Paris completed in 1993, the High Line has been redesigned and planted as an aerial greenway and rails-to-trails park.

Located on the West Side of Manhattan, High Line is a public space that features gardens, art, live performances, delicious food, and space to hang out with friends or family. The park was built on a historic elevated rail line, giving visitors a dazzling view of New York City.

Points of interest in the park include Tiffany & Co. Foundation Overlook, Donald Pels And Wendy Keys Gansevoort Woodland, 14th Street Passage, Diller – Von Furstenberg Sundeck & Water Feature, the Chelsea Market Passage, and more.

We think a visit here is one of the best things to do in Manhattan!
