“Experience a handcart trek”
Experience a handcart trek much like the one pioneers endured over 150 years ago. Visit the Mormon Handcart Visitors' Center at Martin's Cove and view exhibits recording the tragic circumstances of two handcart companies. Leaving late in the summer, they experienced bad weather, exposure, and death (for many) in order to unite with the main body of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Salt Lake Valley.
Reviews
We wanted to stop here on our way through and stretch our legs. It was very windy and cold but the building were quaint and set against a beautiful landscape. I gave this three stars only because we couldn't tour all the buildings, tour season must be closed, but we did go into the visitor center to read the history and see the displays. It was warm and cozy in there and the couple missionaries were friendly and helpful. If you are into Mormon history or had family members in the handcart companies then you should stop here. They have plaques with all the names, including the pioneers who didn't make it, hanging on the wall.
