“near the hot springs!”
Buckeye Campground provides a quiet camping experience. The campground is on Buckeye Creek and is shaded by Jeffrey and Lodgepole pines. Hiking along Buckeye Creek into the nearby Hoover Wilderness. Hiking on Eagle Creek to the flanks of Eagle Mountain. Buckeye hot spring (140 degrees F) is just east of the campground. The spring comes out above the creek, over a rock overhang, which creates a cave-like area in the pool. Another small spring is upstream. This is a very popular spring year round. Fishing in Buckeye Creek offers different kind of fishing experience to get away from crowds. Trails are nearby to Yosemite. Nearest lakes are four miles from campground. Generally open in late May to late September, weather and condition permitting.

We camped here during 4th July weekend and there was a plenty camps available. Actual campground is divided into 4 individual loops. There is a great mixture of sites that are better suited for van or tent camping and there are sites that are suited for larger rigs.
Our site was perfect for out 16’ Teardrop T@B, our TV and 2 more additional Subaru’s that we had to pay extra vehicle fee + $6.00.
Important thing to note, although this place has very well maintained vault/pit toilets there’s no running water, other than nearby Eagle Creek or Buckeye Creek. Campground is only 8 miles from town Bridgeport, and last 2.5 miles are on well maintained, graded and wide road, well sites for any car with stock ground clearance. Also climb is gradual so anyone with larger rigs will not have any problems getting to it.
Our original intent was to boon dock along the road before campground, but being that it was 4th of July weekend all of the locations were packed more tightly that campground itself. And judging by the looks of it,these locations did not offer any privacy and were loud.
Less that a 1/2 mile of a walk from our site were Buckeye Hot springs, located on the bottom of 20 ‘ deep canyon. There was plenty of parking available considering that hot springs were packed with people. Trail from parking to the horsing is steep on loos ground son come prepared with good footwear. This short hike is definitely an ankle twister. Only phone signal available was T-Mobil. Thanks to surrounding hills there is no light pollution so it is a perfect place for stars viewing. Big thank you goes to our camp host Jim, an amazingly youthful 80 year man with such a gentle soul and witty personality.
Surrounding creeks offer ample opportunity for fly fishing. Campground is a short drive from Twin Lakes that also offers several camps but little of peace and quiet or opportunity for solitude.
We will be definitely coming back to enjoy this place.
