“one historic carousel”
Because PTC No.6 was stationary and didn't have the "excitement" of a jumper carousel...where the animals went up and down as well as around...the manufacturer made it one of the country's fastest merry-go-rounds. It twirls its riders at a breath-taking 12 mph, compared with the average carousel speed of 8 mph. The carousel itself was manufactured in 1905 for Elitch Gardens, an amusement park in Denver. The carousel was operated at Elitch Gardens every summer until 1928, when it and the band organ were sold to Kit Carson County for $1,200 (including delivery to Burlington). The county commissioners who approved the carousel's purchase, C.J. Buchananm G.W. Huntley and I.D. Messenger, were widely criticized for this "extravagant expentiture" during hard times. As a result, Huntley did not seek re-election in 1928. Buchanan lost in the primary that year, just three weeks before the recently purchased carousel opened in Burlington for the first time. I.D. Messenger was not up for re-election in 1928, but he was defeated when he ran again two years later.

Definitely check the open dates before you stop. We didn’t. But cute town.
Fun little stop! Only runs every 1/2 hour so be aware when you stop. Only .25 to ride and super beautiful and very fun historical ride. One of the fastest carousels I’ve ever ridden. Fun family stop.
Closed from Memorial Day to Labor Day. You can only see a bit of the carousel through a set of windows as it is enclosed.
Great stop. the history of this carousel is very interesting with friendly staff who are willing to share. kids loved the ride and for only .25 you can't beat it. the museum looked interesting too we just didnt have time to stay.
Really cool stop! It truly takes you back to yesteryear with the 25 cent ride and little county fair surrounding it. Definitely worth checking out!
Great little pitstop! The carousel was really impressive. Beautiful colors & designs. It costs $.25 to ride & $1 to tour the museum.
Great stop - fun history and beautiful carousel. $.25 per ride. As others have said, it moves fast - around 12mph.
A great stop. We loved riding the carousel. There is also a Geocache here at the sign. There’s a second one catty corner at the town water tower.
Such a cute stop! Made us feel like kids again riding on the carousel. The history of it is interesting. Kudos to the members that purchased it; their vision was spot on, sad it wasn’t appreciated during their time. The museum is $1 per person and $0.25 to ride the carousel per person. Hands down one of my favorite stops on our trip!!
Totally worth the 20 min stop—absolutely stunning craftsmanship and artistry on the carousel. Makes you feel 6 again.
