“thirteen colorful historic houses”
Rainbow Row is the name for a series of thirteen colorful historic houses in Charleston, South Carolina. The houses are located north of Tradd St. and south of Elliot St. on East Bay Street, that is, 79 to 107 East Bay Street. It is referred to as Rainbow Row for the pastel colors used to paint all of the houses. It is a common tourist attraction and is one of the most photographed parts of Charleston.
Reviews
This street embodies the spirit of Charleston. The colorful houses are gorgeous and take you back in time. Every street in downtown Charleston is wonderful to walk down but this is certainly the highlight.
The locals told me it was overrated when I asked for directions but I'm glad we took the time to walk this street. The colours weren't as vibrant as I expected from photographs I'd seen and all the cars parked along the street got in the way of my own photos but I'm still so glad we got to go see it for ourselves. Perhaps it is a little overrated but it's an iconic spot we just had to see.
here is nothing like Charleston. Columbia might be the capital of South Carolina, but Charleston is it's soul. Rainbow Row on East Bay, is the iconic center of Charleston.
While many of the homes in this area of Charleston are picturesque, keep in mind they are private homes. My sister married into a family that lived in one, and they eventually left, getting tired of tourists taking pictures into their windows, and treating their private property like it was a public historic site.
Splurge on the carriage tours for this area! Jan is perfect time of year. Interesting history.
Bring comfy walking shoes and camera- such a pretty walk. Nice view of bridge from adjacent park. *Mind parking meters and signs.*
Beautiful street in Charleston. Great for a casual stroll.
Cute little row of houses! My wife and I spent half the day in Charleston and loved it. We definitely want to come back here. One of the coolest cities I have been to in this country.
Nice to ride by and get a glimpse of what it's like to live in this city. Also a nice spot for some pictures.
