“longest wooden covered bridge in the U.S.”
The Cornish-Windsor Bridge is the longest wooden covered bridge in the United States and the longest two-span covered bridge in the world. There were three bridges previously built on the site. All three were destroyed by floods. The bridge operated as a toll bridge until 1943. The bridge was featured on the Town Bicentennial Medal struck in 1976 and is featured on many New England postcards.
