“hiking canoeing and fishing”
Located within an hour of central Florida attractions and theme parks, this 620 acre park is home to one of the state's largest live oak trees. A short trail near the park entrance takes visitors to the mammoth oak tree. A canal connects the park to Lake Griffin, the eighth largest lake in Florida, where visitors can enjoy boating and canoeing, as well as fishing. Anglers will find plenty of largemouth bass, bluegill, speckled perch, and catfish. Visitors can observe the park's wildlife while picnicking or strolling along the half-mile nature trail. A shady, full-facility campground beckons travelers to spend the night or an entire vacation here. There is no swimming due to a healthy alligator population. Canoe & kayak rentals are available. Located three miles north of Leesburg and 30 miles south of Ocala.

Recently visited here for the first time, and while the park is small it is gorgeous. The river and nature trail are great, but the real highlight is definitely the Mammoth Oak--it's definitely the biggest live oak I've ever seen, and my daughters had a blast exploring the base of the tree. Must see!
Sites have Electric and Water hookups. Dump on the way out. Park is right off hwy 27 / 441 in Fruitland Park convenient to The Villages.

I would go again. but ready to deal w/ the bugs in the event they're out. The park is clean and the sites are well maintained. The site had water and 30 amp . the dump was not far. Can't miss it if you drive around the campground, is on the way out.

This campground is very clean and very well maintained. The campsites are relatively secluded. There is a playground/ picnic area, along with a couple of short trails, kayak and canoe rentals and a guided pontoon boat tour ($). It is convenient to shopping and other area attractions.

We stayed here in our 25 foot Class C for three nights while we researched purchasing property in The Villages. Our site number 10 was nice and shady, and was a deep site which allowed us to back our RV further back from the Loop Road. We had full hookup service. The staff was friendly and professional and the restrooms showers and laundry facilities were all clean and well-kept. This is not exactly a wilderness Ccampground , as it is located pretty close to town and there is a road that goes close to it so you do get some road noise .There is a lot to do in this area if you like being outside, you can rent kayaks from the check in office
and paddle them on the Dead River which is right there at the boat docks at the campground. The Dead River is called that because there's nearly no current, it goes out to Lake Griffin (about a 45 min trip). Highly recommend this although do it in the early morning as there is not much shade in the afternoon. We were lucky enough to see an alligator. Also make sure you check out the second largest Live Oak Tree in the state of Florida which is also within the campground. It's amazing!

Stayed overnight and spent the day in the park. Pretty much as described in other reviews. Wanted to mention that senior Florida residents get a 50% discount ($9 a day for electricity and water!)and the paperwork says no camper vans, cars etc. Tents are OK so if you’re in a conversion of some type or car or van carry a tent for Florida State Parks.

This park is small but packs a punch. Staff was super friendly. Short trail was so cute. Yes, cute - there was a little poem garden and don't be afraid of the "untamed" trail. It's easy and leads to the back of a neighborhood so all types of different things to see.
Don't have a boat but would be a great spot to stay just off the lake if you want to boat nearby.
Sites were nicely spread out and more private compared to a lot of camping spots.
My only complaint is that if you leave and are in the loop I was in you might get stuck behind people emptying their tanks, so just leave time for that.
For the price, this spot is great!

We stayed here just one night on the way home from picking up a new trailer. The park is conveniently located and easy to find. Being close to town can be a plus; on the other hand we did hear sirens a couple of times at night. Staff was very friendly and helpful and so was the camp host. The bathhouse was clean and well maintained. In addition to restrooms and showers, there are laundry facilities and vending machines. There is at least one wheelchair accessible campsite with its own ramp to the bathrooms, a couple other paved sites, and a few pull-through sites but they are on the corners and less private. All sites have water and electric (20 and 30 amps) - not sure about the other hookups we don't use - plus your own picnic table and fire ring.
Apart from the campground, the park has a day-use area offering a boat launch, small amphitheater, playground, and pavilion. There are a few short nature trails with plaques describing the native vegetation. There are beautiful oak trees and places to sit in the shade throughout the park. The park is also dog friendly and there are doggy bag dispensers and disposal stations at various locations. We had decent cell phone reception. For $18 a night ($9 with senior discount) this was a great place to stay and we would definitely come back.

Our site was level and REALLY long. All hookups were at the back of the site together. We had no problem with any of the hookups. Sadly we only stayed one night but looked like there was things to do. Rangers were extremely friendly and despite our short stay happy to see them and give them a Jr Ranger activity booklet. The old Live Oak tree is a quick walk. Very close to the villages which has shopping (Target and Walmart). Tmobile was weak but usable.
