Positives:
- well maintained
- located right on the Columbia, in the gorge. It's across the river from Bigs Junction on I-84.
- relatively dog friendly
- scenic
Negatives:
- like any WA state park, pricey for what you get
- no sewer hook-up at the sites. But dump is free for campers.
- noise from trains and nearby highways.
- may fill up or get busy during peak times.

Considering the location of the park on the Columbia River between two train tracks and two highways, it was quite peaceful. Watching the river, train, and highway traffic is part of the ambience of the area. There is much to explore in the area. We went kayaking at Horsethief Lake, toured the Maryhill Museum of Art, and visit the Stonehenge replica. We plan to go back to further explore the area.
The park was very clean and well maintained. We had a full hook-up site, but it was a bit spendy.

Way to noisy. Two RR's, two highways. The toilets were locked as were the freshwater faucets.. I found it to be embarassing to be a tax payer this state

We have been staying at Maryhill for a number of year. We always enjoyed the lush grass for our kids and dog. Add to that the river provided a cooling releaf during those hot summer days.
Unfortunately, two years ago (according to a host) the irrigation pumps failed. Two years without water and that lush green grass has turned into brown weeds.
The good news is that the pumps are partially up and running. Hopefully this campground will return to it’s former glory.
There is good spacing between the sites. Electric, water and sewer all worked well.
A nice winery and historical museum are just up the road. You can even visit an outdoor Stonehenge there.
All in all, very relaxing.
Oh the noise. Yes, the highway is across the river. Yes, there are train tracks on the Oregon side and Washington side. Not much the park can do about that.

This is a beautiful, tree filled, green park along the Columbia River. The site we stayed in was shaded all day long. Not much privacy, but we've come to expect that at Washington State Parks. Apparently the pumps had been out of order for some time, but the sprinklers are working now and the grass is bouncing back nicely. Since we have an RV and the site had full hookups, we did not check out the bathrooms, so we have no comment there. The day use has a decent swimming area and is very green with soft grass.
The trails along the river were beautiful with lots of bird life. The trees at the park were varied (Oak, Pine, Sycamore, Alder, Birch, Maple) and provide a wonderful atmosphere and comfortable shade. Since the park is in the Columbia Gorge, there are trains (both sides of the river) and that should be expected.
I still get grumpy with the high price of state park camping... it is in my nature.

This park uses online reservations, so even though the ranger station at the entrance was closed, our site was ready for our arrival with our name and dates booked posted. If you're dropping in, you can see what sites are available at the information board for the day. We were told by the Ranger that the online reservations doesn't allow for booking day of arrival, so you just fill out the registration form and drop payment in the box if your site is available (and save $8 online reservation fee).
The campground has spacious campsites and most of the sites have at least some view of the Columbia River, with the odd numbered sites in the 30's having the best views and are along the river itself. Bring your sewer hose extension as the sewer hookups are at the back of the site and have a funky rise at the connection spot. The flush bathrooms are spotless, and showers are 50 cents for 3 minutes. Since the RV sites are all full hook-ups, we didn't try out the pay-showers.
There is some railroad noise from both the Washington side which is fairly close to the campground, as well as from across the river on the Oregon side (noise traveled well across the river). Also, some of the trucks leaving Hwy 14 to cross the bridge at Biggs use their Jake Brakes and are quite loud. But none of this seemed to be a problem at night and the campground was pretty quiet for sleeping. Cell service with T-Mobile was available, but spotty depending on where you are in the campground (we don't use a cell booster).
Stonehenge and Maryhill Winery are very close to the campground and definitely worth checking out. While the Goldendale Observatory is under reconstruction, the astronomy talks are held at Stonehenge from 8:30 pm - 11:30 pm Friday through Sunday and are very good! But if you just want to relax, watching the trains and barges travel up and down the Gorge is pretty wonderful, too.

Maryhill State Park is expansive and beautiful, with wonderfully big RV sites well separated from each other and all arranged in a huge ring that encloses an open grassy center. If you get a site on the eastern part of the loop as we did, you also are on the edge of the big day-use park, so the grass and trees just keep going on and on! The whole park is on the banks of the Columbia River, with plenty of access points. And it is a nice base for hikes and bikes in the east Gorge, exploring Maryhill Winery, Maryhill Art Museum, all the fruit stands nearby. The Dalles, on the Oregon side of the river, is a fairly short drive away.
The down-sides are the fact that it is pretty much always windy there, often very windy (ESPECIALLY windy during our last visit in June 2019; a few large branches fell, though they all missed the RVs and cars). I love the wind in the trees there, but it does make it hard to have a campfire or outdoor eating. Also there is noise: a few trains come by (on tracks just above the campground and another set of track across the river), and there is a steep long downhill grade of Hwy 97 above the campground where all freight trucks use their air brakes. Our trailer provided some insulation from this at night (and there was less of it during the day) so it didn’t bother our sleep, but it might be a problem for some people.

Great Stop on the Mighty Columbia River, with fantastic view of the river and surrounding area. there can be a little noise from outside the park at times with the trucks laying on the jake brakes coming down the hill.
Great beach access and a boat ramp. we were headed south and didn't bring the boat but maybe next time.

Maryhill State Park sits alongside the Columbia River making it a popular summer destination. We visit the most in February though when we do a Gorge winery tour for Valentines Day. The park is open year-round and we enjoy visiting in winter when we have the park nearly to ourselves. We have stayed in many sites, most often site #33. A word of caution - The railroad tracks are close to the campsites and trains go by throughout the night. If you are a light sleeper you may wish to bring earplugs!
