Reviews
This is an exceptionally well-curated, interactive museum. The (still ongoing) fight for civil rights is laid out in a very personal, real way here for visitors to grasp. My daughter (10) and I (from Europe originally) spent 1.5 hours of pure learning and understanding here. There's lot's to read, so an adult can easily spend 3 hours here. However, the multimedia approach enables kids to figure out what's going on quickly as well. Highly recommended.
In downtown Jackson, the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum is one of the biggest museums in the United States dedicated to the Civil Rights Movement. It has preserved various artifacts from that specific era, and helps visitors understand the importance of the Civil War. If you want to learn more about how the Civil Rights Movement came to be, this is the perfect place.
You can take a guided tour throughout the multitude of permanent and temporary exhibits focusing on the events that led to the Civil War and its aftermath. The best part is that entrance to the museum is free on Sundays, and you can explore the eight major galleries at a slow pace, or you can take a guided tour.
We think a visit here is one of the best things to do in Jackson, MS.
