“BBQ Buffet to Die For”
It was 1995...the stock markets were doing well, Forrest Gump was #1 at the box office and the Gamecocks won the Car Quest Bowl. These were the things we would talk about with our dad, Robin, and Barbara in their kitchen on the weekends. We had lots of time then to carouse while they were trying to master their craft of barbequing. Many mornings we woke up to our house filled with the strong aromas of collards and vinegar pepper sauce stewing on the stove. Dad looked like a coal miner steadily stoking coals and hickory on his pride and joy cooker, affectionately known to us as “the beast”, while in the back yard preparing his signature barbeque and ribs. They loved cooking for their friends and family, sharing stories and recipes, catching up on current events, and just enjoying everyone’s fellowship. As you can imagine, especially if you have had our BBQ, the group of folks started to grow rapidly. It was then they decided to pursue their hobby full time and start offering Dad’s barbeque to the world. After cleaning out the piggy bank, we started a little barbecue joint on Platt Springs Road in Springdale where Dad was the cashier, the cook, and the dishwasher. After a ton of elbow grease we eventually moved to HWY 378 in Lexington. Our wonderful friends began to spread the word about the best meat and three in town. So much so that we had to renovate and add more seats and a roof, and it kept growing. Today, we have two restaurant locations along with a state-of-the-art catering kitchen location. Our Smokehouse was featured on Turner South's "Blue Ribbon Award Show" as one of the top BBQ joints in the south. Our catering division, Hudson’s Classic Catering offers the best of both worlds with our down home southern staples and your uptown chef inspired cuisine. As one of the largest catering companies in South Carolina we cater weddings, to businesses, churches, and regular folks like us all over SC, and parts of NC and Georgia. This has helped a BBQ hobby grow into a family restaurant and catering company, of which we are very proud. Although our business has grown, our food still has all of our family’s love that went into it back in 1995. We thank all of our loyal friends and patrons who have helped us over grow over the years. Whether you're dining in, picking up take-out, or being catered to, we strive to provide the best service possible. Our father still says, "Be careful what you pray for, you just might get it." Our father's hobby has gotten way out of hand.
