“popular hiking gorge”
The campground sits just north of the Virgin River, which divides the Paiute and Beaver Dam Wilderness areas. A short walk will bring you to the river and a little bit of fishing.

Beautiful. The cuts made through the canyon along with the cast shadows off the canyons are lovely. Seeing the Virgin river flowing along side makes it even more enjoyable.
What a fantastic little spot this is. We stopped here while traveling from the Las Vegas area to Southern Utah for just a night. We liked it so much we did the same on our way back down to Vegas.
The campground is BLM, and is fairly primitive, but does have water, trash and nice clean restrooms. The surrounding scenery is immense, and we took a scramble down to the river to have a wander around some of the trails.
They have two main types of sites some odd little tent sites that are in clusters of 3, 4 or 5. Great if you were with someone you know, a bit close if you didn't know them. The other site are pull throughs. They are large and were perfect for us as overnight stops as we didn't even unhitch.
The campground is just off the 15 Freeway but far enough away that you can hardly hear it at all. This is First Come First Serve campground but it's hard to imagine it ever fills up.
We couldn't get AT&T coverage here, but Verizon was good as long as we used a booster.

I stayed at the Virgin River Canyon campground between stops in Saint George and Las Vegas.
The campground is right off the highway yet feels remote due to the winding nature of the deep canyon. You can hear the highway a little bit.
It's $8 a night, or $4 if you have a National Park Access or Senior pass.
The campground had a handful of other campers on a midweek evening in January. The sites are very close together, but since it was mostly empty that wasn't a problem.
Nice bathrooms, and a decent little trail down to the Virgin River.
Word of warning: I picked up a mouse at this campground. My rig is older and certainly has ways for a mouse to find it's way in, but for such a short stop I didn't expect to gain a stowaway.

I would give this campground a higher rating as the views are stunning. We had a wonderful site on the back side of the CG. You could still hear some highway but we knew that was going to be a given. I came away from the place with the feeling that it is terribly neglected. The bathrooms were a mess. We were there for a week waiting for a package to show up at the PO and I think they had only been cleaned 2 maybe 3 times. Paper towels and toilet paper all over the floors. Very poor flushing toilets if they flushed at all. They get a lot of tenters there that have a real need for toilet facilities and I felt bad for them. The CG was full over the weekend and we left on Tuesday and nothing had been done. There was quite a bit of trash around the CG. I am not sure why they don't have a host there. There is a host site up by the water spigot.
We had no cell service w/Verizon, but we did have streamable internet.

A quick transit stop on our way from California to Utah. Beautiful views, easy access and clean. There was no onsite host....and restrooms were very clean (contrary to some of the prior reviews we read). Campground was full for the night. We stayed in the loop farthest from the freeway. We could still hear a little noise, but nothing terrible.
If we had been able to secure a spot right on the rim, probably would have stayed longer to enjoy some of the hiking.
We had suitable Verizon, but no TMobile service.

We stayed here from oct 12 to oct 30 2016 and what a great place to relax and not worry about the real world. No cell no 4g no tv just the great views of the cliffs river and wildlife. We really enjoyed the rabbits and quail that were almost constantly around we didn't like the Chipmonks quite as much as they were very agressive but still entertaining. We have seen the other posts here and when we were there there was an onsite host and restrooms were cleaned and stocked 2 times a day. be careful with you awnings as winds come up quite fast and can be fierce. We rolled in as dusk and just grabbed the first spot we could find it we level with a table and fire ring. Water is avalible from many taps around the campground. We did make a few side trips to St George Ut for food and a trip to mesquite Nv for some fast food and to check messages. Zion NP isn't far but that time of year is so busy there we skipped the side trip there. We did see desert bighorn and Mule Deer on the hillside across the gorge and liked the river for a wade to cool of as there were a few days in the 90s. We are going to stop here again this fall.

We needed a place to stop on a road trip and this was in the right place for the right price. We heeded others' advice and set up our tent (on a VERY small, but flat, tent pad) in a site near the rim. Though this is very close to I-15, we could barely hear any traffic and the view of the gorge is beautiful. It is very hot here in the summer (early September), though we did have a little breeze. The bathrooms were adequately clean, with flush toilets, running water and A/C! Not a bad deal for $8.00.

When we lived in Hurricane UT we would visit here for a picnic. In early Feb. 2018 we camped here for a night on our way to southern Arizona. Site was not quite level (but we knew that would be the case) and there were more people camped here than we expected but we didn't have any difficulty finding an open site. Views were great and the experience was excellent.

Stayed 3 days in April (very windy) and 1 night in June (too hot) whilst tarveling to and from Utah. There were some people living there permanently (not a problem) as you are allowed 28 days or more. Both times on the right as you enter near the toilet block.
Great to get in the river in the heat but shallow in June. Walk down tyhe river south in the canyon is good but original path washed out. You need to cross the river several times and get wet feet up above ankles.
You do hear a bit of noise from the interstate depending where you camp.
lots of pull through spaces and tent pads. Note the tent pads tend to have car parking and pads close to each other.
Toilets clean and there is a water tap at the very top to fill RV tanks just under a shelter- not listed as available anywhere. About 200ft from the pay station on your way out.
Note if you go the other side (North) of the interstsate you can boondock for free!

I have stayed here multiple times on the way to Vegas and it has always been almost dead. I mostly decided to write this review because the last time I was there (just driving through to hit the river for an hour) we saw a sign that said free camping with national parks pass. I'm not sure if I had just read this wrong or if it is for the certain part of the campground. Nevertheless it is $8 without the parks pass for sure. The bathrooms are clean and the water appears to be free (just a spigot by the bathrooms). The wind can be FIERCE so beware of that. My girlfriend an I stopped here one June and were unable to set up our tent because the wind was so bad, we ended up just making the rest of the drive to Vegas. Overall one of my favorite places and I will always stop here to jump in the water if I'm in the area.
