Eisenhower State Park is a state park in Osage County, Kansas, United States, located 30 miles northeast of Emporia and 35 miles south of Topeka. The park was formerly known as Melvern State Park, due to its location on the north shore of the 6,900-acre (28 km²) Melvern Lake, was renamed in 1990 to honor former president Dwight D. Eisenhower. The park includes 1,345 acres (5.4 km²) of prairie, 440 acres (1.8 km²) of woodland, and various areas for recreational activities. The 10,008-acre (40.5 km²) Melvern Wildlife Area adjacent to the park is home to a variety of wildlife, including white-tailed deer, eastern wild turkey, bobwhite quail, squirrels, various furbearers, and waterfowl making it a great place to observe or partake in hunting (by permission only). Hunting is allowed throughout the park except on the 1,000-acre (4 km²) waterfowl refuge, which is open to wildlife viewing from January 15 to October 1.

We arrived on a Sunday late afternoon and there was barely anyone there. We were welcomed with a very clean state park. There are several different areas to camp in, the place is pretty big. We are driving an old VW Westfalia so didn't need hook ups. There is ONE primitive site that is on the water, and we finally found it. We didn't care for the Five Star area just because we wanted to be near the water, playground, and beach (we have two kids). We found our site in Black Jack and it felt like home. There was a playground near it, along with hot (free) showers, the beach was just on the other side. There were a few other campers and even if it were busier, I don't think it would feel very crowded. A highlight is the visitor's center/welcome center where they have fish, snakes, toads, bees, etc as well as VERY friendly staff that provided us with crayons, stickers, and coloring books for our boys. We really like this spot - very beautiful clean campground and lake.

After picking up a new motor home we were headed cross-country and stopped in for a quick night. We arrived in the dark and left in the dark early the next morning. Dad insisted on a picture in his Campendium t shirt. There is a difference in price depending on full service sites all the way down to dry sites. A little more poking around with the flashlight might have led us to a cheaper option. We were underway early the next morning to get some distance in but we wish we could have had more time. Maybe during daylight it might have gotten 3 or 5 stars instead.

We wanted to stay close to Kansas City, but not too close. Booked last minute because everything else was booked, but pleasantly surprised. A little more out of the way then I prefer, but all and all a pleasant stay. Nice big spots, and campground right off the water.

We camp a lot at Eisenhower state park in the summer. They have several campgrounds at this park. They have waterfront sites and Westpoint loop has full hookups. Most of the campgrounds have water and electricity. Both 30/50 am service. Cellphone signal for AT&T was great. They also have a little store at this state park.

We selected Blackjack 205 on the lake, spacious site, wonderful views. Water was supposed to be on at the site but it wasn’t, no issue, tank was full. 50/30/20 amp service energized. Park was nearly empty, noticed a couple of other campers, none close. Only neighbors were the deer!
Dropped a Star due to the misinformation regarding water being on at the site. Note that the temps had been in the single digits a week before our stay.
