“at the Dolphin Research Center”
The star quality of Flipper, a bottlenose dolphin, made a hit of the 1960s TV show that bore its name. Flipper, to the surprise of many fans, was originally played by a female dolphin named Mitzi, which was trained at Santini's Porpoise School. Mitzi could knock a prop gun out of a villain's hand with a well-timed leap, or chatter loudly when danger lurked. Mitzi died in 1972, and the porpoise school became the Dolphin Research Center, a serious-minded facility devoted to education and public awareness. But the first stop on its tour is always the statue that marks the grave of the most famous dolphin in history.

we only visited the sign, not the park. cute photo op. very big!
I use to go alot to Dolphin Research during the 20 years that I lived in the Keys. It is a beautiful relaxing place to spend the day.
This is a great park for up close and personal with the dolphins. However, the fact that Flipper is buried here seems to be a myth. The employee we spoke with said it's possible that Flipper is underneath the statue of Mysti but she said it's most likely a myth.
1962-1964 I remember my grandfather taking us kids to marathon to ride flipper. He retrieved a nickel and then swam us around. I know there was more than one dolphin but did we actually get a chance to ride on the real flipper
We watch "Flipper" on Hulu and my girls (8&10) wanted to stop. I asked several of the attendants of the Dolphin Research Center "where is Flipper's grave?" NONE knew! I know they were only in their twenties at most but seriously. It ended up being more fun looking for it on our own - the discovery of the simple grave did not take long. A very cool place if you like dolphins, plan to stay and swim with them. The center has attendants who work with them and will let you get in the pools with them too. Pretty cool.
