The architect was the much sought after, George Champlin Mason, famous for his work on many of the "Newport Cottages." Commissioner, James B. Finch was a prominent banker and businessman who operated the Perry Mill cotton mill located at the bottom of Memorial Boulevard. The inn is centrally located on prestigious Touro Street in the Historic Hill/Old Quarter section of Newport and is within walking distance to Thames Street and Bellevue Avenue shopping and eating.
