Africans and Black Americans have lived in New Hampshire from the time of the first European settlements. PBHT includes 24 sites in Portsmouth that highlight the range of activities and the time span covered by this history. The work continues as more research reveals long-forgotten stories, such as that of the Colonial-era African Burying Ground located in and around Chestnut Street.
