“The most accessible waterfall!”
Merriman Falls is in the Lake Quinault area of the Olympic Peninsula. The falls plunge about 40 feet over a cliff before splashing through a pile of rocks and logs covered in all sorts of mosses and ferns and passing under the road towards the Quinault River. The falls are one of the most popular attractions in the Quinault area due to its ease of access, yet at the same time its a very little known waterfall among the various popular waterfalls in the Olympics. Merriman Creek has a rather small catchment basin, so expect it to be reduced in stature in the summer and fall. Where to begin? Lots of moss, lots of rock, lots of macro possibilities - both water and botanical. I've never been to this area when it's been sunny, so I'm not sure what it'll be like, but there are a fair amount of trees surrounding the falls, so I have a feeling it won't be photo-friendly. You'll want both ultra wide and macro lenses available, as well as mandatory use of a polarizer.
Reviews
Been here several times. Spring gives the best volume of water, but it is pretty any time of year. Super easy to get to, during summer can be a lot of vehicles.
The falls are not marked and you pull off the side of the road. Beautiful!
Nice. I'd give it a 5 if it was a little bigger but I'm glad we stopped.
