“wish upon a star...”
"Everyone knows that Disney is synonymous with palm trees, sunny weather, and of course, Florida. But interestingly enough, the museum dedicated to Walt Disney and his fantastical legacy isn’t in Florida at all, it isn’t even close. The Walt Disney Family Museum is located in San Francisco, and is one of the coolest stops for Disney-oholics looking to take an up-close look at the life and legend who started it all. Part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the museum opened its doors on October 1, 2009 to excited fans who have, over the years, turned it into a must-visit museum for anyone with a love for all things Walt. The museum tells the story of Walt's life and unbelievable achievements, giving guests the chance to see original illustrations, early drawings, and models. The best part? The entire experience is narrated by Walt Disney’s himself. Over the past six years the museum has hosted many Disney related exhibitions, including The Lost Notebook: Secrets of Disney’s Movie Magic, From Fantasy to Fantasia, and an in-depth look at some of Walt’s most prized possessions. Today the museum is hosting some of their most exciting exhibits, Disney and Dali: Architects of the Imagination, and Tomorrowland: Walt’s Version For Today. The Walt Disney Family Museum starts at the beginning of Walt’s life and takes visitors on a journey all the way up to his death in 1966, all while giving fans a look at some of the most priceless Disney memorable in the world. If you’re a super fan, or even just a regular fan, they even have tours of the museum space before opening hours so you can explore all that history at your own pace." -Roadtrippers If you've ever visited Disneyland, know all the songs on the Mary Poppins soundtrack or wished upon a star, then The Walt Disney Family Museum is for you. Although I knew the Disney family had lots of achievements and ideas, I was still blown away by the extensive history that they managed to fit into a near century. There was free street parking... Read more
I came in with the expectation that it would be more historical about the animation and movies I grew up with, for some reason, but it was more about the life of Walt Disney. They definitely did... Read more
