“with all of its original features”
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this 1906 Greek Revival mansion was originally the Holberg Hotel. The 8,000 square foot Inn with nine guest bedrooms still has its original features: Georgia heart pine floors, ornate tin ceilings, elegant light fixtures and chandeliers, and eleven fireplaces. A beautiful garden, rocking chairs and porch swings on the generous wrap-around veranda add to your journey back in time. You’ll also enjoy the Inn’s upstairs library with its hundreds of books and magazines. You can read in your room, the library or one of the eighteen other rooms and parlors. Many notable people have been guests at The Veranda. For many years Confederate soldiers held their yearly reunions here; Margaret Mitchell interviewed Confederate Veterans for “Gone With the Wind”; William Jennings Bryan (of the Scopes Trial fame) stayed here in 1908 while running for President. The movie, “Broken Bridges”, was also filmed at The Veranda in 2006. The Veranda was named 1990 Inn of the Year on Pamela Lanier’s Inn of the Year Honor Roll. The nine lovely guest bedrooms in The Veranda are all appointed with beautiful antiques and modern bathrooms( bathrobes, hair dryers)(Room 2 features the Inn’s original clawfoot tub and hand shower.) Public phone, Fax, Wireless Internet Service are available for guests at the Inn. Guests can enjoy watching TV in the Inn’s TV Parlor.
