We had a fantastic time visiting the Abraham Lincoln home & surrounding neighborhood, which is actually part of the national parks system, and entirely pedestrian friendly (no cars are allowed on the streets in that area for a few blocks radius). It’s really nice & beautiful this time of year, we stopped thru on our road trip & would say it was absolutely worth waiting for the tour (they run every half an hour for free out of the visitors center). We learned a lot & it was so powerful to be in the home where Lincoln wrote some of his speeches & was asked to be his party’s candidate for president. My partner’s only recommendation is that they make it more interactive & really spruce up the wow factor - we’re in Abe’s home for goodness sakes. Would be cool if they made it a bit more exciting! And, all in all, life is what you make it. We had a wonderful time.
My husband and I enjoyed our visit here. It is free to visit, but you have to stop in at the front desk to get a timed pass. On busy days they can run out, as it's limited spots. So especially if coming from out of the area, you may want to get there early, or in advance if you can. There's also a small parking fee, but some were having trouble with the pay machine taking their money. It's a pretty area with trees and greenery, and set back in the 1800's. We didn't have as much time as I would have liked to explore around, but we hope to return at some point. There is some walking and standing for those that are mobility impaired. It's not a super long walk from the parking lot for most people. It was hot in the home the day we were there, so I suggest taking a hand fan. If you enjoy history I think you would enjoy this place.
This is a MUST-VISIT. Especially if it’s October. The sky was blue, the leaves were red, orange and yellow, and to roam around these streets and in Abraham Lincoln’s home was INCREDIBLE! The tours run every 10 or 15 minutes (with very fun and friendly park ranger tour guides) and they are free of charge. What a magical and memorable excursion. So glad we stopped!
We had so much fun visiting Lincoln’s home. Make sure you take the free tour!! Our tour guide was so filled with personality and knowledge. She truly loves her job and it made it fun and educational. My family and I learned a ton!!!
Amazing historic site to showcase an amazing house and an amazing man!
