“revered work of in situ folk art”
The Hartman Rock Garden is one of the nation’s most intriguing and revered works of in situ folk art, an outsider art phenomena where self-taught artists construct fascinating worlds out of concrete, metal, stone, and whatever else they can find. Over the past eighty-plus years, the Hartman Rock Garden has welcomed tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world. With its recent restoration and ongoing preservation, it is poised to welcome countless more over the coming decades. We hope you enjoy your visit and that you will consider making a donation to help ensure that this national treasure is preserved, maintained, and interpreted for future generations. Today, the Hartman Rock Garden is owned, interpreted, and maintained by the Friends of the Hartman Rock Garden, a local 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization.

Very unique but their gate was locked. It's totally someone's yard.
We went here June 25, 2020 (Thursday), and were the only ones here. It was a nice treat to have the place all to ourselves! This was my first time to the Hartman Rock Garden, and it was better than I imagined! It's located in a residential neighborhood, and parking is on either side of the street. Our gps took us right to where we needed to be.
It's free to enter, but they do have a donation box on the back side of the home. It's very creative and you can tell a lot of time was spent creating this outdoor work of art. There is a sign on the outside of the fence, and there are signs at the gate you enter to left of the house. Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. No dogs/pets allowed. It is open from dusk until dawn. There is also a sign on the back of the house talking about the vision of the Hartman Rock Garden, and there's pamphlets available there in a box. There is an angel rock gate that you enter from the left side of the house. Then you turn the corner to the right and the garden is fenced in the backyard and side of a home. The grapevine trellis is a beautiful photo opp as sunlight partially shines through. There are flowers on the ground there and throughout the garden, adding to the beauty of it. There is a giant rock basket, a canoe, a cactus, birdbath, and other various exhibits with flowers. The castle with drawbridge is one of the highlights I'd say of the garden, and was one of my favorite exhibits. Another of my favorite scenes, The Lord's Supper, was located on that side of the garden as well. Noah's Ark rounds up my 3rd favorite scene, and is also located on that side of the garden too. There is a Native American/Pioneer scene and Death Valley exhibit. There are many patriotic rock pieces in the garden including the Liberty Bell, Lincoln's Cabin, the Washington Memorial, A colonial house with women sewing the American Flag, colonial soldiers, and more. My 70 year old father has a bad hip and knee, and he had no problem walking in the garden. You could probably spend anywhere from as little as 15 minutes to an hour or two depending on how much time you want to take it all in. It is definitely worth seeing!
Very cool! I spent longer there than I expected too, with so many details to see! In someone's backyard, but I didn't feel obtrusive. They have maps there detailing the history behind each individual rock sculpture. A donation box is there as well, which I was happy to give to after thoroughly enjoying this unique art instillation.
This is an interesting story but not worth a stop. May be better in spring or summer.
I didn't really think this was worth the stop. It was a very unique place but I was basically the size of someone's back yard. Doesn't seem pet friendly
Kids liked it. The water features were not all up and running however the rock features were very cool. Worth checking out if you are in the area!!
This place is definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. It's meticulously maintained and even the kids really enjoyed it. A true gem in the city.
This place was beautiful. So much time and dedication when into the property and it shows around every corner.
While it looked very interesting, it was basically someone's backyard, all the gates were locked and you couldn't get up close.
If you appreciate the little things in life, this place is 1000% worth the stop. Beautifully crafted art installation in someone’s backyard, tons of explicitly detailed scenes and structures. Love it, and it’s free!!!
