The Yampa River Botanic Park is one of several public gardens in Colorado, and this one is 100% directed and funded by a volunteer board of directors.
In 1992, the land was reimagined from a horse pasture to a six-acre plot with over fifty gardens and pools for visitors to enjoy. Although the botanic park sits at an impressive elevation of 6,800 feet, it supports many diverse types of plant life from varying altitudes.
Through carefully crafted micro-environments, the botanic gardens is home to plant life from the entirety of the Yampa River Basin (which ranges from 4,000 to 12,000 feet above sea level).
The gardens are free and open to the public between May and October. During this time, numerous musical events, theatrical performances, and weddings take place at these beautiful gardens.
We think a visit here is one of the best things to do in Steamboat Springs!
We did this on a whim and I am so glad we did! It felt like I was walking through a fairy storybook! Such a beautiful, well-planned park with more than 60 gardens. We went in early October when the leaves were all changing, making it even more magical.
What an absolutely stunning park! Incredibly beautiful and well-organized.
